Patrick Suen

Iaido 6-Dan / Kyudo 3-Dan

Patrick Suen is the founder and head instructor of Tokushikai Canada (Toronto & Ottawa) and has been practicing martial arts for 20 years. He has been a member of the Canadian Kendo Federation’s Board of Directors since 2014, and currently serving as national secretary. 

Patrick has been an active contributor to the Canadian and International Iaido community, having (co)founded many events and initiatives, including the:

Patrick is a 13-time medalist in competition within the Americas, with 6 x Gold, 4 x Silver, and 3 x Bronze over the past 10 years. Within Canada, Patrick has earned 3 x Gold, 6 x Silver, and 2 x Bronze in individual and team competitions.

Hanna Ikeda-Suen

Iaido 5-Dan

Hanna is a member of the original Tokushikai Iaido dojo in Tokyo, Japan.

She began her Iaido journey in 2007 at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Toronto, and quickly became one of the winningest Iaido competitors in Canada and the United States, having earned multiple Gold medals in the Canadian National Iaido Championships, East Coast Iaido Championships, and Pan-American Iaido Championships.

Having grown up in Ibaraki prefecture in Japan, Hanna brings deep knowledge of Japanese language, culture, and etiquette to Tokushikai Canada, and has been instrumental in creating a safe and welcoming environment to the dojos she’s supported from behind the scenes; including the JCCC, Etobicoke Kendo/Iaido Club, and Tokushikai.

Hanna is currently an assistant instructor at Tokushikai Ottawa.

Francis Domingo

Iaido 4-Dan

Francis Domingo is the first member to join Tokushikai Canada at its founding, and is currently co-lead of the Toronto dojo along with Peter Kim Sensei. He has over a decade of martial arts teaching experience, and currently holds the rank of 4-Dan in Iaido and Black Belt in Karate.

Francis began his Iaido training during his teens at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre which he ran parallel to his Karate-do training at the Toronto Academy of Karate, Fitness and Health. He focused mainly on personal development for the majority of his training, but soon transitioned to entering Iaido competitions in Canada, earning a place on Team Canada in 2019-2020, representing Canada on an international stage.

To date, Francis has been awarded 2x Gold, 3x Silver, 1x Bronze, and 1x Fighting Spirit Award, in national and international Iaido competition.

Francis brings with him martial arts knowledge of the highest standard and ensures that students will have the tools they need to reach their full potential.


Peter Kim

Iaido 3-Dan / Jodo 3-Dan

Peter Kim joined Tokushikai Canada at its founding, and is the dojo administrator and co-lead of the Toronto dojo along with Francis Domingo Sensei. He has over 28 years of martial arts experience, and currently holds the rank of 3-Dan in Iaido, 3-Dan in Jodo, and 4-Dan in Karate.

Peter has trained all across North America, starting Iaido and Jodo at Ken-Zen Institute in New York City, and continued training Karate in New England until he moved back to Toronto in 2019. He was selected to the National Iaido Team in 2020, representing Canada at the East Coast Iaido Championship.

With nearly 3 decades of training, Peter has found inspiration in the understanding of human movement and self defence behaviour, and aims to convey this knowledge to the next generation of martial artists.
