Agreements and Commitments
Tokushikai Canada is committed to providing a healthy community environment through promoting
respect, cultural understanding, and volunteerism. A positive environment exists when all members of
the community feel safe, included, and accepted, and actively promote positive behaviours and
interactions.
The agreements and commitments apply to all instructors, participants, and observers during program
activities, whether at the regular training locations (Barrhaven United Church, Ottawa Christian School, and Silver 7 Martial Arts & Fitness) or off-site.
The Tokushikai Canada agrees to make available to students suitable facilities and competent instruction for teaching Iaido lessons, and providing qualified personnel trained in the procedures and traditions of the martial arts.
The member agrees while using the facility or services acquired by the Tokushikai Canada, that they will comport themselves with respect to the culture and traditions of a Japanese martial art, as communicated to them by instructors and senior students.
The Tokushikai Canada reserves the right to alter the days, hours of operation and classes if deemed necessary, to amend or add new policies as it may seem necessary from time to time.
The member agrees unconditionally to pay the above tuition, and understands that the tuition is not affected by the member’s facility usage and/or attendance, closing due to scheduled events, involvement in other activities, statutory holidays, vacations, and inclement weather.
The member acknowledges that a service charge of $30 shall be paid to the school in the event of either a returned payment or missed payment. The member will also be liable for all costs incurred by the school in the collection of past due obligations.
All participants and observers of classes, workshops, and tournaments shall abide by the general rules of “Fair Play”: Respecting the rules of the game, Respecting officials and accepting their decisions, Respecting the opponent and other participants, Providing all participants with equal opportunities, Maintaining dignity under all circumstances and demonstrating good sportsmanship.
Respect and discipline are key elements of martial arts training and the understanding of their importance is a goal. We expect all participants and observers to practice: Respect for the Instructors, Respect for the other participants, Respect for the premises, venues, and other users of the space in which the program is being conducted, including the Barrhaven United Church, Ottawa Christian School, and Silver 7 Martial Arts & Fitness, With regards to martial arts programs, respect for the rules of the venue (dojo), practice rules and the rules of competition. Respect for the officials (e.g. referees, judges), Participants and observers accept that reasonable forms of discipline will be employed to ensure respect for the aforementioned and to reinforce martial art teachings.
Bullying or harassment by participants, instructors or observers will not be tolerated. Participants
are encouraged to alert the instructor if they feel they have observed bullying or they feel they
were bullied or placed in a position of potential threat.
Swearing is strictly prohibited in dojos, change rooms, classrooms and during any activity within
the Tokushikai Canada programs. Swearing refers to the use of offensive, abusive or insulting
language.
Failure to comply with the Code of Conduct may result in consequences for any instructor, participant, or
observer of programs, including but not limited to suspension and expulsion from any programs or
activities, and a revocation of Tokushikai Canada membership.
I have read and understood the terms and conditions as provided in the Tokushikai Canada Agreements
& Commitments and I agree to all of the terms.
